Food and service fit for a Princess…Princess Elsa that is!
Lexington teamed up with Dreams Come True to throw an exclusive party for over 75 families at the world’s finest toy store, Hamleys, on Sunday the 3rd of May.
“The atmosphere’s electric,” said Rob Kirby, Chef Director at Lexington, as he stood preparing to serve food to the families that joined Dreams Come True, at Hamleys.
Murray Tapiki, Development Chef at Lexington, and his team started preparing a few weeks back, working hard to get suppliers on board and support the event. The food team started getting everything ready the day before and then we all got to Hamleys nice and early, before the party started and the doors opened, to help set up – it was the quietest we’ve ever seen the London toy shop! But it didn’t stay quiet for very long…
The doors opened at 10am and the party began! Children were greeted by Stormtroopers, Spiderman, The Gruffalo and the mouse and ‘Despicable Me’ minions. It was great to see the smiles on their faces as they entered the toy store – well the Stormtroopers frightened a few children but Disney Princesses, Elsa and Anna, soon cheered them up!
We were joined by lots of children entertainers, face painters and balloon twisters who kept the children entertained. Families also got to go inside a life sized London underground train, have their photo taken and be transformed into a tube train driver.
It was fabulous to see so many happy faces and catch up with the Dreams Come True team to find out more about their amazing achievements.
One amazing example of the charities work is Poppy. She’s 10 years old and has left-sided hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body). Poppy loves visiting museums and after watching ‘Night at the Museum 2’ she asked her mum if she could visit the Natural History Museum, in Washington. Dreams Come True arranged a ten-night stay in Washington, a valuable family break for Poppy and her family, along with access to the wonders of the Smithsonian. Poppy was even given a private guided tour of the museum. Visit Dreams Come True to read more dream stories.
It gives all of us at Lexington a real warmth and great pleasure being able to support Dreams Come True, who work so hard to make dreams come true for children and young people with serious and life-limiting conditions.
We will be supporting Dreams Come True next month by hosting a Dream Tea – you can do the same. To find out more visit Dreams Come True.
